Doris Padmini Selvaratnam seorang profesor madya di Pusat Kajian Pembangunan Mampan dan Inklusif (SID), Fakulti Ekonomi dan Pengurusan (FEP), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Beliau mengendalikan kursus berkaitan usahaniaga, Keusahawanan Sosial, Ekonomi Wanita dalam Kesihatan, Ekonomi Dasar Sosial; Perancangan Ekonomi Keluarga dan Analisis Sosial dan Politik dalam Pembangunan. Beliau telah menulis buku mengenai perniagaan digital dalam kalangan warga emas, artikel mengenai implikasi sosioekonomi ibu tunggal, kesukarelawanan pelajar, warga emas dan masyarakat Orang Asli Semenanjung Malaysia dan masyarakat peribumi (Penan) Sarawak. Beliau menggunakan bahan kajiannya sebagai alat bantu mengajar kuliah dan menganjurkan pelbagai aktiviti penyelidikan komuniti yang melibatkan pelbagai pihak berkepentingan – komuniti setempat, pelajar, NGO, sektor swasta dan kerajaan tempatan. Pembelajaran dalam komuniti ditekankan dalam semua kursusnya untuk menonjolkan elemen kesaksamaan jantina, kuasa tawar-menawar politik, dan kesukarelawanan dalam pembangunan komuniti, pembelajaran daripada komuniti dan juga kekayaan pengetahuan yang diperoleh melalui proses dialog dan penglibatan dengan pelbagai pihak berkepentingan . Beliau telah mengendalikan kursus ekonomi ASEAN untuk perwakilan Indonesia; dan kursus Penilaian dan Metodologi untuk penyelidik muda Asia dan Eropah di Perancis, Salzburg dan Vietnam yang ditaja oleh Majlis Penyelarasan untuk Perkhidmatan Sukarela Antarabangsa (CCIVS); dan kursus Pembasmian Kemiskinan untuk pegawai kanan kerajaan Bangladesh. Beliau telah menjalankan kursus pendek bertajuk Menerapkan Nilai dan Kompetensi Keusahawanan dalam Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran. Semasa pandemic COVID-19 beliau telah mula mengajar kursus Perancangan Ekonomi Keluarga tajaan ASEAN-EU SHARE. Kerja perundingan beliau adalah berkaitan dengan penilaian impak sosial, pemprofilan sosioekonomi, pelan induk pendidikan untuk Orang Asli dan semakan pelan induk wilayah.
Doris Padmini Selvaratnam is associate professor at the Center for Sustainable and Inclusive Development Studies (SID), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEP), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She conducts courses pertaining to Senior Start-up, Social Entrepreneurship, Economics of Women in Health, Economics of Social Policy; and Social and Political Aspects of Development. She has written books on digital business by the elderly, articles on socioeconomic implications of single mothers, student volunteerism, elderly and the indigenous community (Orang Asli) of Peninsular Malaysia and the native community (Penan) of Sarawak. She uses her research material as classroom teaching aid and organises numerous community research activities involving various stakeholders – the local community, students, NGOs, private sector and the local government. Experiential learning in the community is emphasised in all her courses to highlight elements of gender equality, political bargaining power, and volunteerism in community development, learning from the community and also the richness of knowledge gained through the process of dialogue and engagement with the diverse stakeholders. She has conducted ASEAN economic course for Indonesian delegates; and Assessment and Methodology courses for Asian and European young researchers in France, Salzburg and Vietnam sponsored by Coordination Council for International Voluntary Services (CCIVS); and Poverty Alleviation course for Bangladesh senior government officials. She has conducted short course entitled Embedding Entrepreneurial Traits and Competencies in Teaching and Learning. Lately during the COVID-19 pandemic she has started teaching ASEAN-EU funded SHARE course entitle Family Economics Planning. Her consultancy work is related to social impact assessment, socioeconomic profiling, education master plan for Orang Asli and regional masterplan review.
