Biografi/ Biography :
Norfilza Mohd Mokhtar is currently the Professor of Genome Medicine at the Department of Physiology. She was the coordinator for the International Program for the Faculty of Medicine. She received her first degree in Doctor of Medicine from the Universiti Sains Malaysia. She underwent molecular biology training under the mentorship of Professor Stephen Charnock Jones and Professor Stephen Smith from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom in 2001 till 2005. She was the President of Malaysian Society of Pharmacology & Physiology from 2019-2020. Her research was on the regulation of macrophage inflammatory protein 2 gamma by steroids in endometrium. She was elected as the Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust as well as the life member of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge. Her research projects focusing on genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics and metagenomics aspects on multiple diseases including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, colitis associated cancer, and irritable bowel syndrome. Her translational project is on application of MYHealth smartband on the monitoring one`s health in preventing noncommunicable diseases. Her latest venture is on environmental contamination including microplastics on inflammation related diseases.
