Siti Aishah Hasbullah is Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry and Chemical Sensor at Department of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, Selangor. She completed degrees at the same department and studied organic synthesis at Department of Chemistry, Sheffield University for her PhD. She was supervised by Professor Dr Simon Jones and developed new route for the synthesis of pyroglutamic acids derivatives based on anthracene chiral auxiliary. She was appointed as Head of Postgraduate Study, Department of Chemical Sciences in 2017 until 2023 and have opportunity to develop a new prestigious Joint Degree PhD Program between UKM and Gifu University that has been endorsed by Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia in 2019. She has recently served as Assistant Dean, Student Affairs and Alumni, Faculty of Science and Technology, where she assisted in setting up student organizations, leadership initiatives, and extracurricular activities. Dr Aishah maintains a wide-ranging research in organic into the function of chemical and biosensor and their value as ionophore for detection of metals for environmental department. She has studied the interaction of the organic compound and metals complexes at the molecular level using Density Functional Theory (DFT). More recently, she has extended her research to the area of chemical sensor and biosensor, and discovered the use or synthetic chemicals and nanomaterials to achieve sensors and diagnostic systems. The research bridges theoretical methods and modelling with lab-based experimental science and has published in more than 70 indexed manuscripts in that areas.
