Saya telah menjalani pengkhususan di dalam bidang fisiologi dan farmakologi kardiovaskular, dengan penumpuan ke atas mekanisme kecederaan kardiovaskular dan potensi intervensi terapeutik. Penyelidikan kami menggunakan pelbagai jenis model haiwan, termasuk kecederaan jantung yang disebabkan oleh isoprenalin dan nikotin, untuk menyelidiki laluan yang terlibat dalam kerosakan jantung. Salah satu bidang minat utama saya ialah potensi terapeutik tumbuhan perubatan dan sebatian bioaktif. Kajian kami telah meneroka kesan ekstrak kaya antosianin daripada roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa), glikosida kardio 17β-neriifolin daripada Cerbera odollum, dan S-allylcysteine daripada bawang putih, dengan tujuan untuk mengenal pasti sifat kardioprotektif dan mekanisme tindakannya. Penyelidikan ini telah menyumbang kepada pemahaman dan bukti bahawa penggunaan sebatian semula jadi mempunyai potensi di dalam terapi kardiovaskular. Di dalam makmal, kami mempelopori pelbagai teknik, terutamanya sistem perfusi jantung terasing menggunakan alat Langendorff—satu teknik yang satu-satunya aktif di dalam bidang penyelidikan kardiovaskular di Malaysia. Selain itu, kami juga mengkaji kereaktifan vaskular, tapak jalan protein, dan ekspresi gen untuk lebih memahami fungsi dan penyakit kardiovaskular.
I specialize in cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology, with a strong focus on unravelling the mechanisms of cardiovascular injury and exploring potential therapeutic interventions. Our research involves utilizing animal models, such as isoprenaline-induced and nicotine-induced cardiac injury, to gain insights into the intricate pathways of heart damage. An area of particular interest is the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants and bioactive compounds. Our work has explored the effects of anthocyanin-rich extracts from roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa), the cardiac glycoside 17β-neriifolin from Cerbera odollum, and S-allylcysteine, a sulfur-containing compound derived from garlic. These studies aim to uncover their cardioprotective properties and mechanisms of action. I am proficient in advanced laboratory techniques, with a primary focus on the isolated perfused heart system using the Langendorff apparatus—a technique that stands out as the only active cardiovascular research approach in Malaysia. Additionally, I am involved in research on vascular reactivity and investigating protein and gene expression pathways to deepen our understanding of cardiovascular regulation and potential drug targets.
