Mimi Hani Abu Bakar was born and raised in Klang Valley. After graduating high school in Kelana Jaya, she entered Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to pursue her Bachelors in Biochemical Engineering, and then continue her Master in Chemical Process Engineering within the field of fuel cell technology, at the same institution. She decided to join the corporate sector to gain real world working experience. Recruited by PETRONAS in 2005, she was given the responsibility to plan for refineries schedule in crude oil sectors. From there, she had gained new experience in working together with national and international oil and gas refineries. Later she decided to pursue her true passion, that is research and proceed with her Doctorate. In 2016, she earned her Ph.D. from Lincoln University of Canterbury New Zealand, which focused on biofuel cell technology. She is convinced that the field of her expertise will have a positive impact on the environment and climate change. Now, she is leading the Biohydrogen and the Biofuel Cell Group of the Fuel Cell Institute UKM, and supervising researchers under various grants and with relevant publications. Apart from that, she is also a member of the Malaysian Association of Hydrogen Energy (MAHE) and is an active reviewer within the biofuel cell category for several ISI journals.
