Dr. Tian Khoon holds the position of senior lecturer at The National University of Malaysia (UKM) and obtained his Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from the same institution. His primary focus in research lies in polymer electrolytes, binders, electrodes, recycling, and nanomaterials for energy storage. Actively engaged in various battery projects, including collaborations with PETRONAS and NanoMalaysia Berhad, Dr. Tian Khoon is deeply committed to both research and teaching in the field of battery technology.
Driven by a passion for battery research, Dr. Tian Khoon has devoted his career to the dual roles of researcher and entrepreneur. He serves as an advisor for International Battery Center Sdn. Bhd. and holds the certification of a member and chemist from the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry.
Dr. Tian Khoon has garnered international exposure through collaborative research at esteemed institutions such as Uppsala Universitet, Sweden; Japan Advanced Institute Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan; Cadi Ayyad University, Morocco; and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), South Korea. He had the privilege of meeting Prof. Dr. M. Stanley Whittingham, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate for 2019 in Sweden.
Acknowledging his contributions, Dr. Tian Khoon has received several awards and honors, including the prestigious "Merdeka Award Grant 2018" in Malaysia. Furthermore, he achieved the Award for Highest Journal Indexed for Young Researchers in 2020 and 2021 at his university. Dr. Tian Khoon boasts an extensive publication record, with over 40 articles in reputable journals and contributions to three books.
In recognition of his innovation research on Sodium-Ion Batteries, Dr. Tian Khoon and his colleagues was honored with the Gold award at the International Innovation Award in Malaysia Technology Expo 2022 and the International Virtual Expo of Innovation Product and System Design 2021.
