Biografi/ Biography :
Profesor Madya Dr. Azizah Ugusman merupakan Ketua Jabatan Fisiologi, Fakulti Perubatan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Beliau menamatkan pengajian Ijazah Doktor Perubatan di UKM dengan cemerlang sebelum melanjutkan pengajian dan memperoleh Ijazah Doktor Falsafah (PhD) dalam bidang Fisiologi di UKM. Selepas menamatkan pengajian PhD, beliau menjalani latihan pascadoktoral di School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Bidang penyelidikan beliau tertumpu kepada fisiologi dan farmakologi kardiovaskular, khususnya disfungsi endotelium vaskular, hipertensi, mekanisme molekul penyakit kardiovaskular serta pembangunan strategi terapeutik baharu untuk penyakit kardiovaskular. Sehingga kini, beliau telah menerbitkan lebih 100 artikel jurnal, serta berjaya memperoleh dan mengetuai pelbagai geran penyelidikan yang kompetitif.
Dr. Azizah juga aktif dalam penyeliaan pelajar Sarjana dan PhD. Pelajar-pelajar beliau telah menerima pelbagai anugerah dan pengiktirafan di peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa. Ramai graduan di bawah penyeliaan beliau kini berkhidmat dalam bidang akademik, institusi penyelidikan dan sektor berkaitan kesihatan.
Beliau turut berkhidmat sebagai ahli lembaga editorial dan pewasit manuskrip bagi jurnal-jurnal bertaraf antarabangsa, serta aktif menjalinkan kerjasama penyelidikan dengan institusi dalam dan luar negara. Selain itu, beliau merupakan Exco Persatuan Farmakologi dan Fisiologi Malaysia (MSPP) serta Pengerusi Kongres Federation of Asian and Oceanian Physiological Societies (FAOPS) 2027 yang akan berlangsung di Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Associate Professor Dr. Azizah Ugusman is the Head of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She obtained her medical degree with distinction and subsequently earned a Ph.D. in Physiology from UKM. She later completed her postdoctoral training at the School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Her research focuses on cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology, particularly vascular endothelial dysfunction, hypertension, the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular disorders. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has successfully secured and led numerous competitive research grants.
Dr. Azizah is actively involved in postgraduate education and research training, having supervised Master`s and Ph.D. students whose work has received research awards and recognition at national and international levels. Many of her former students have subsequently secured positions in academia, research institutions, and healthcare-related sectors.
She serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several reputable international journals and actively collaborates with researchers from both local and international institutions. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) and chairs the Federation of Asian and Oceanian Physiological Societies (FAOPS) Congress 2027, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
