Hamidun Bunawan is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Systems Biology (INBIOSIS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a dedicated Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Biosciences, Taylor`s University. His research program stands at the vibrant intersection of microbial and plant bioengineering fuelled by a commitment to developing sustainable solutions that address pressing challenges in agriculture and biomedicine. Dr. Hamidun is a recognized expert in synthetic biology and bioengineering, consistently pushing boundaries with pioneering investigations. He has engineered synthetic Rice Tungro viruses, providing unprecedented insights into viral mechanisms and paving the way for innovative disease control strategies. His expertise extends to metabolic engineering, where he expertly leverages yeast to synthesize high-value plant-derived compounds like anthocyanins. Furthermore, he is at the forefront of genetically modifying microorganisms such as Lactobacillus and Trichoderma, unlocking their potential for enhanced antibiotic production and diverse biomedical applications. Dr. Hamidun`s research excellence is underscored by substantial funding from highly competitive sources, including a prestigious international grant from Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF). His findings are disseminated through a prolific body of high-impact, peer-reviewed publications, reflecting his dedication to advancing scientific frontiers and contributing to global well-being.
