Muhammad Faliq Abd Razak is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He advises the Government of Malaysia, corporations, and international organisations on trade, investment, and regulatory policy, and has contributed to regional and multilateral initiatives with the World Bank, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). Trained in international economic law and regulatory governance, his work focuses on the design, implementation, and compliance dimensions of trade and services policy in ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific. He specialises in regulatory coherence, non-tariff measures, investment governance, labour standards and mobility in trade agreements, and institutional mechanisms supporting regional economic integration. His research engages directly with policy reform processes, examining how international commitments are translated into domestic regulatory frameworks and how trade regimes intersect with development, labour, and sustainability objectives. He has authored publications on international trade and investment governance, trade-related labour standards, and regulatory policy, with a particular emphasis on practical reform pathways and institutional effectiveness in emerging and developing economies.
