Dr. Faizul Jaafar is a Senior Lecturer of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. He later pursued his PhD in Biochemistry at the same university. During his post-doctoral training at Monash University, he focused on reproductive neuropeptide signalling, laying the groundwork for his current research interests. His research interests revolve around the intricate mechanisms of brain and reproductive axis ageing, specifically focusing on reproductive neuropeptides. His work aims to uncover the molecular pathways underlying ageing-related changes in reproductive function, contributing to a deeper understanding of human health and disease.
Dr Faizul actively investigates the role of metabolic and hormonal factors in ageing and reproductive health. He is particularly interested in exploring the impact of neuropeptides, such as spexin and phoenixin, on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. His research provides insights into the biology of ageing and has implications for developing novel therapeutic strategies to address age-related reproductive disorders. In addition to his research, he is committed to delivering high-quality education to medical and nutrition students, fostering critical thinking and scientific inquiry. He also contributes to academic programs by creating innovative teaching materials and assessments, particularly in the areas of nutritional biochemistry, metabolism, and nutrigenomics.
